Political ideologies: how to understand political trends
In this course, we will try to decipher the complex palette of political parties and political movements through the core foundation – the ideology on which political leaders or movements rely. Understanding the ideological foundations of the right and the left, conservatives and liberals, populists and extremists, will help filter all slogans, promises and actions of politicians through the prism of critical thinking and distinguish manipulations, lies or insincere flirtations with voters.
Ideology is the foundation on which a strong and stable society is built, and the substance that binds it together and makes it monolithic. This means that every citizen has to answer the question “Who am I?” for himself or herself. An object that can be used by politicians in their own mercantile interests, or a subject who delegates to politicians the right to represent my interests and realize my will as a voter?
It is necessary to understand who is who. What are the differences between political movements and parties, and what are their similarities? What ideological confrontations exist between them, and what political alliances are possible. Every 4-5 years, we enter into election battles, and it is the duty of every citizen to be conscious in their choice and critical of politicians’ promises. And the right to vote should be viewed not as a commodity but as a value.
